The gharara is a split trouser fitted to the knee, finished with a gota or lace band at the joint, then flaring wide to the floor. It grew out of the Nawabi court of Lucknow and is still a fixture of Pakistani Mehndi, Nikkah and Eid wardrobes. This collection holds gharara suits for guests and family. Gharara vs Sharara
The two get confused all the time. A gharara is fitted from the waist to the knee, where a decorative joint marks the start of the flare. A sharara flares from the waist or hip with no joint, so it moves more like a divided skirt. Ghararas read more traditional. Shararas feel easier and more casual. A gharara is usually worn with a short kurti or a hip-length shirt so the knee detail stays visible, along with a dupatta. Chatta patti, a patchwork of layered fabric strips in contrasting colors, is a Mehndi favorite. Pastel and ivory ghararas are also popular for the Nikkah, and brides will find those in white Nikkah dresses.
Fabric affects the flare below the knee. Silk, jacquard and organza hold a crisp, wide shape. Chiffon falls closer to the leg. For Eid, mint and powder pink are easy choices, while yellow, mustard and green belong at the Mehndi.

A gharara uses more fabric than straight trousers, so if you want to convert a design to a gharara cut, or the reverse, ask us before ordering and we will check whether the set allows it. Sleeve, neckline and length changes cost nothing extra where the fabric allows. Colors and embroidery stay as the brand made them.
