Choosing a Reception Saree

Fabric sets the drape. Georgette and chiffon fall softly and are easy to manage through a long evening. Net and organza hold more structure and show off sequin and cutdana work. Silk and tissue look formal and carry a sheen in photographs. Color usually moves away from wedding red toward gold, champagne, blush, emerald, wine or midnight blue. Tissue and silk suit a winter evening. Georgette and chiffon feel easier in summer heat.

A saree is worn over a fitted blouse and a petticoat, and the blouse does as much work as the saree. Sleeve length, back neckline and the amount of coverage can usually be adjusted. A longer blouse or jacket-style top suits a more modest Walima look.

The drape changes the look again. The Nivi style, with pleats at the front and the pallu over the left shoulder, is the one most brides wear. Bengali and Gujarati drapes bring the pallu forward in different ways. If draping six yards on the day feels risky, ask whether your chosen design can be made as a pre-stitched lehenga saree. We produce each saree after you order, and you can follow its progress through photos or short videos on request. Where feasible, you can change the base color, move embroidery from the border onto the body or reduce it, and alter the blouse design. Extra material or work is priced and approved before production. Standard delivery is free, within three months of ordering, and paid Rush delivery takes up to 30 calendar days for closer dates.

Can I wear a saree to my Pakistani Walima?

Will I need help draping it?

Most brides have someone help them pleat and pin the saree on the day. A pre-stitched lehenga saree removes that step.

Can the blouse have long sleeves?

Yes. Sleeve length is one of the blouse details you can change when you order, along with the neckline and back.

How long is a saree?

Usually around six yards, or about five and a half meters, including the pallu.
