Pishwas, Anarkali or Frock

The three overlap, and the words are used loosely. A pishwas is the long, very wide Mughal original, generally floor-length, with either a closed bodice or a front opening. The Anarkali suit is its later and often lighter descendant. A Pakistani frock can be any length. Many pishwas designs borrow an angrakha-style overlap at the bodice, so if that wrap detail is what you like, see angrakha dresses.

A pishwas suits the Nikkah well, since its length and long sleeves give easy coverage. It works at a Mehndi or Mayun in brighter colors too. For a Nikkah, ivory, mint, peach or blush with pearl or silver work is common. For a Mehndi, try mustard, emerald or magenta with multicolor thread. Fabric and Embroidery

So many panels make fabric weight important. Chiffon and net flare softly and suit daytime events. Raw silk, organza and velvet hold a wider, stiffer bell. Embroidery usually concentrates on the bodice, the sleeves and a deep hem border, or daman. That leaves the panels plain enough to swing.

Customizing Your Pishwas

Because the skirt is cut in panels, called kalis, the flare can be made bigger or softer. Sleeves can run to the wrist with a cuff, stop at three-quarter length or be sheer. The neckline can go higher for coverage. Some brides add a small trail at the back. Others want the hem to just touch the floor. Each dress is made in our own workshops to the details you approve, and changes that add fabric or embroidery are quoted before we start.

What is worn under a pishwas?

A fitted churidar pajama is traditional because it gathers neatly at the ankle. A straight trouser works too. Check each product for its included pieces. The trouser style can be changed as part of customization.
