What the Anand Karaj asks of Punjabi bridal wear
Three moments test Punjabi wedding attire in the gurdwara. Seated on the floor, a lehenga held out by a cancan layer spreads wide, while a gharara, fitted to the knee, folds more easily around crossed legs. During the laavan you circle the Guru Granth Sahib four times, and a trail can catch on the turns, so keep it for the reception or pick a floor-length hem. And because shoes come off inside, give our team the length for the footwear you will wear longest. Some gurdwaras also set rules for brides, such as a suit instead of a lehenga or full sleeves with the midriff covered, so ask yours before you choose. See our bridal lehenga silhouettes.
Keeping your head covered all morning
From the moment you step inside, the dupatta stays on your head, so pick its fabric for grip as well as looks. Organza has body and holds a pin; chiffon is airy but slides as you bow and stand; silk sits heavier and stays where you place it. A second dupatta, which some designs include, can go across your shoulders while the first stays pinned. While your outfit is being made, ask for progress photos and close-up videos of the dupatta border and its work.
Color and work for the ceremony
A Punjabi bride traditionally wears red, and in red the work color sets the tone: gold and antique gold on bright red, gold mixed with silver on deep red, antique gold and copper on maroon. For a winter date, red or maroon velvet adds weight and depth. Baby or dusty pink with silver, or ivory with rose gold, is the softer route. If you change for the evening, see our looks for the reception; for the groom, our sherwani designs; and for every other shape, the full Pakistani bridal line.

Punjabi wedding FAQs
What should guests wear to a Sikh wedding?
Sikh wedding outfits for guests follow the gurdwara: everyone covers their head, so women bring a dupatta or scarf and men a head covering. Pick something you can sit cross-legged in, with sleeves and a modest neckline; a salwar kameez or an anarkali works well. Guest outfits, with their own delivery terms, are in our wedding guest collection.
Can I wear a suit instead of a lehenga?
Yes. A kameez over a gharara or sharara gives you two separate legs and a fitted line to the knee or hip, and some angrakha and pishwas designs pair a long frock with pants. A traditional salwar is a Full Custom Design request: ask before you order, we confirm whether the design allows it, and added fabric, embroidery or labor is priced first. Compare the cuts in our gharara sets for brides.
What does Punjabi bridal wear cost?
Each design lists its price in US dollars, and the grid can be sorted by price. The cut matters first: a trailing farshi lehenga uses far more fabric than a kameez with a gharara. After that come the fabric and how much of it carries dabka, zari and pearls. Any change you request is priced before sewing starts; Rush Delivery ($59) or Super Rush Delivery ($199) is added only if you pick it.
