What to check on an Indian wedding gown
- The flare: the skirt is built from kalis, panels that widen toward the hem. More kalis, or a full circle, give a rounder skirt, and a cancan layer can hold it out.
- The trail: it makes the entrance, but someone has to lift it on the stage steps. Gowns come with or without one, in floor or ankle length.
- Sleeves and neckline: sleeves run from full length to sleeveless, necklines from high and collared to V, sweetheart and square.
- The work: dabka, zari, salma sitara, sequins or pearls, in silver, rose gold, gold or tonal thread. The thread color changes the mood as much as the base color.
- The dupatta: organza, chiffon, masuri or net, worn over the head for the ceremony and moved to the arms for photos.
Front-open, covered, fusion or fitted
Beyond the one-piece maxi, compare these cuts. A front-open gown parts at the waist over an embroidered lehenga, so you get a skirt’s movement with a gown’s length. A covered gown with full sleeves and a high or round neck is cut for a bride in hijab; see our Islamic bridal gowns. Belted waists, slits and open backs sit in our Indo-Western gowns, and silhouettes that hug the hips before flaring below the knee in our mermaid and fishtail cuts.
Which gown for which event
For a mosque ceremony, start with coverage; if you also want a lighter palette, compare ivory, cream, silver or ice blue with silver or tonal work. For the day after, if you prefer softer colour, compare baby pink, peach, lilac, gray or sea green with rose-gold work, and the walima dress range shows more of that direction. If you would rather skip a lehenga on the main wedding day, red, rust or plum with gold work gives a deeper look in one long line. For an evening party, see our reception looks.

Indian bridal gown questions
How do I style Indian jewelry with a gown?
Let the neckline lead. A high or collared neck leaves room for long earrings and a tikka or matha patti rather than a heavy necklace, while a V, sweetheart or boat neck can carry a choker or a layered haar. With the dupatta over your head, keep the earrings long enough to show. Match the metal to the embroidery: silver-toned sets with silver work, gold with gold.
How much does an Indian bridal gown cost?
Each gown shows its price in US dollars, and you can sort the range by price. Any change that adds fabric, embroidery or labor is priced and approved before work starts. Rush Delivery ($59) and Super Rush Delivery ($199) apply only if you choose them; Normal Delivery is free.
Will I pay customs on a gown made in Pakistan?
Import charges are normally prepaid by us, so couriers usually ask you for nothing. If a courier ever asks you for customs, duty or tax, send us the receipt and we refund the verified amount.
