One outfit, several names

Shalwar kameez, salwar kameez, salwar suit, Pakistani suit and Punjabi suit all describe the same outfit: a kameez worn over a bottom, with a dupatta. Shalwar is the usual Pakistani spelling and salwar the usual Indian one. A Patiala suit is the Punjabi take, with a salwar pleated into deep folds, and a palazzo suit swaps the shalwar for wide, straight pants.

Choosing the kameez and the pants

  • Short kameez: ends at the hip and shows off the bottom; pair it with a full shalwar or palazzos for a younger, lighter look at daytime parties.
  • Knee-length kameez: the everyday classic over a shalwar or straight pants, right for family dinners and Eid outfits.
  • Long kameez or frock: calf to ankle, often flared from the waist and worn over slim pants; the dressiest choice for a wedding.

For more volume, a farshi shalwar runs wide all the way to the floor, our sharara sets flare from the hip like a skirt, and anarkali styles give the kameez itself a floor-length flare.

Fabrics for every season

Lawn is a fine cotton, printed or embroidered, made for hot summers and daytime events. Chiffon is light and fluid, organza is crisp and shows embroidery clearly, and net is sheer and usually lined: these are the fabrics for evening events and weddings. Raw silk and silk carry more weight; linen suits warmer days, while velvet works for cold-weather occasions. Work ranges from simple threadwork to zari, gota, sequins, kiran lace, mirror work and tassels.

Branded suits and our formal suits

A Pakistani label design is often sold as unstitched fabric only, and finding a tailor is left to you. We take that step off your list: we source the label fabric, keep a purchase record for every article and sew it in our own workshops once you order. Approved size changes and feasible style changes, like a higher neckline or longer sleeves, are free on these suits.

Our heavier formal suits, long shirts in zardozi, gota and sequins over silk pants or a shalwar, are embroidered as well as sewn in our workshops, for weddings, formal dinners and the bride’s family. To match an outfit to each event, see our Pakistani wedding guest outfits.

Sizing, in inches

Standard sizes run Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large, matched to our women’s sizing chart; if you fall between two, go up a size. For more room than Extra Large, or a taller or more petite frame, select Customized Size and we sew to the exact measurements you send at no extra cost; our team reaches out after you order to collect them. Our workshop works in inches. Where the page asks for your height without sandals, enter it carefully, because it sets the length. Half or full sleeve lining is free wherever a design offers it.

Shop by color

If you know the color you want, go straight to black, white, red, maroon, pink, purple, blue, green or yellow suits.

Shipping across the US

Branded suits arrive in up to 18 calendar days, counted from the day after you order, with sewing and shipping both included, so order three weeks ahead of the event. Branded suits do not normally offer Rush Delivery or Super Rush Delivery. Our heavier in-house embroidered formal suits run on bridal timings: Normal Delivery takes up to 3 months, Rush Delivery up to 30 calendar days and Super Rush Delivery up to 14 calendar days. If a courier requests customs duties or import taxes, you may need to pay them to receive your order; request reimbursement with the invoice and proof of payment, and we refund the verified amount. Details are on our US shipping terms page.

Why choose Shadi Dress for shalwar kameez

Shadi Dress sources Pakistani-label fabric and sews it in its own workshops, so the suit that reaches you in the US is stitched to your size instead of pulled from a rack. Customized Size costs nothing extra, approved size and feasible style changes on branded suits are free, and verified import charges are reimbursed on request. You can pay by PayPal, card or bank transfer, ask for a video of your finished suit before dispatch and send questions on WhatsApp. We have made bridal wear since 2013 and count more than 20,000 satisfied customers.

Salwar kameez questions

Is this salwar kameez ready to wear?

Yes, though it is not sewn in advance. We stitch each suit for you after you order, and it arrives with the garment pieces listed on the product page finished and ready to wear. You will not need a tailor, and the price on the product page is the price of the sewn suit, Customized Size included.

Do you carry plus-size shalwar kameez?

Yes. Pick Customized Size on the product page and we sew the suit to the measurements you send, at no extra cost, so you are not limited to our standard sizes. Our team contacts you after you order to collect the measurements, and the workshop works from them in inches. You can also browse our plus-size salwar kameez selection.

How much does a shalwar kameez cost?

It depends on three things: the fabric, the length of the kameez and how much handwork it carries, which is why a printed lawn suit and a zardozi formal suit sit far apart. Each product page shows the price in US dollars for the suit sewn to your size, and on branded suits approved size and feasible style changes add nothing to it.

Can I return a suit that doesn’t fit?

No. The suit is made to the size you picked and for no one else, so once it ships it can’t come back or be swapped. Cancel a branded suit in the first 12 hours and you get a full refund; between then and dispatch, 35% of what you paid is deducted. Your best protection is measuring with care and watching the pre-dispatch video.

Can I see my suit before it ships?

Yes. Ask for a full video of your finished suit before dispatch, and you will see the color, the embroidery and how the pieces fall more clearly than in a photo. We sell online only, with no walk-in store, so WhatsApp is the place for questions about a design before you order.
