What Is a Pishwas?

The pishwas is a Mughal-era silhouette: a fitted bodice, a high waist and a skirt cut from many panels so it flares all the way to the floor. In one garment it gives a bride volume and movement, with no separate skirt needed. It is usually worn with a churidar or straight trouser and a large dupatta.

Pishwas, Anarkali or Frock?

A pishwas is the long, very wide Mughal original. It is generally floor-length, with either a closed bodice or a front opening. The Anarkali suit came later and is often a lighter version of the same flared idea, while Pakistani frocks come in many lengths. Choosing a Pishwas for Nikkah, Mehndi and Walima

Its length and sleeves make the pishwas an easy fit for a Nikkah, where coverage often matters. Nikkah pishwas tend toward ivory, mint, peach and blush with pearl or silver embellishment. For a Mehndi or Mayun, mustard, emerald and magenta with multicolor thread work are popular choices. For the Walima, a fuller pishwas in gold or a deeper tone, with heavier work on the bodice and daman, looks more formal. Fabric and Embroidery

Chiffon and net flare softly and suit daytime events. Raw silk, organza and velvet hold a wider, stiffer bell. Embroidery usually sits on the bodice, the sleeves and the daman, the deep border at the hem. The panels are left lighter so the skirt moves freely.

Customizing Your Bridal Pishwas

Because the skirt is built from panels, the flare can be made fuller or softer. Sleeves can run to the wrist with a cuff, stop at three-quarter length, or be made sheer. The neckline can be raised for more coverage, and you can ask for a back trail or a floor-length hem adjustment. Color and embroidery can also be changed where the design allows. Each dress is made in our own workshop network to the details you approve, and we quote any change that adds fabric or embroidery before we start. What is worn under a pishwas?

A fitted churidar pajama is traditional because it gathers neatly at the ankle, and a straight trouser works too. Some designs here layer an open pishwas over a lehenga instead. You can change the trouser style when you order. Check each product for its included pieces.

Is a pishwas a good choice for a modest Nikkah look?

Yes, it is one of the more covered bridal silhouettes. When you order, ask for full sleeves and a higher neckline if you want more coverage than the design shows.

How close will my pishwas be to the product photo?

It is made to follow the design shown as closely as reasonably possible, using your measurements and any changes you approve. You can ask for progress photos or videos while it is being made.

Can a bridal pishwas be ready for a close wedding date?
